Amazed at how much I enjoyed F1 (The Movie). I have almost zero interest in motorsport, and the trailers for it piqued zero interest for me as it looked like bland corporate product. But in an IMAX cinema, it’s an awesome experience. The story is indeed utterly predictable and full of tropes, but under Joseph Kosinski’s direction, the between-races scenes are handled lightly and entertainingly (with slight Ted Lasso vibes – an earnest sense of heart) and don’t get in the way of the frankly spectacular race scenes. It really is TOP GUN with cars, but I think I enjoyed it even more than that film (original and sequel!)
Leave your brain at the door, and you’ll have a blast with it (if the screen and sound system is big enough!!)
