I really rather enjoyed THEY WILL KILL YOU. I saw it had got some mixed reviews, but it was on at Screen 2 at Picturehouse Central and I fancied seeing some bloody mayhem on the big screen so I gave it a shot .And I’m pleased to say I was not disappointed. Directed with a ton of panache by Russian director Kiril Sokolov, this kinetic and vaguely Tarantino-seque horror flick dishes up a lot of great – and very violent – action setpieces with an engaging lead in Zazie Beetz, playing a woman locked in a hotel, trying to escape being sacrificed by a Satanic cult. There’s some fun supporting characters, with Patricia Arquette and Heather Graham playing different flavours of unhinged. And it looks great, with a terrific sense of style to the production design of the hotel-fortress where it all takes place. The soundtrack is terrific too. Big fat breaks!
So yeah, if you want to see a really fun beer ’n’ pizza movie, this really hits the spot. Ironically it’s come out about a week after READY OR NOT 2, which has a similar setup of sorts. I’ve not seen that yet, but I have seen the original, and I don’t think it’s a patch on TWKY. A solid 7/10
