Saw MONKEY MAN last night and thought it was fantastic. Slumdog Wick! It’s a slow burn in places, but once the action kicks off, it’s absolutely blistering. Amazing fight scenes with insanely kinetic camerawork. Honestly, the more I watch good action movies, the more I realise how much the camerawork is as important as the actual stunt choreography itself – or rather, is simply an essential, integrated part of it.
Dev Patel – who directed, co-wrote and stars in this – absolutely knocked this out the park. Beautifully crafted, capturing all the beauty and ugliness of the fictional indian city of Yatana with vivid cinematography. This came out of nowhere to be one of my favourites of the year. And in the rankings of best onscreen fights, this is easily in the top 10. Tremendous stuff!
