Just got back from seeing SPEAK NO EVIL (Dir. James Watkins, 2024) and still processing it. It’s an agonisingly tense thriller, with James McAvoy giving an absolutely searing lead performance. A remake of a Danish film which I was aware of, but hadn’t seen, I’ve heard the original has an incredibly dark final act which has been changed for the remake. I can kind of guess what that original ending was, and to be honest, this version was plenty grim enough for me. It’s a gripping film though. I was on the edge of my seat for a good chunk of it – especially from the second half. Top notch filmmaking.
One of the best tension thrillers (is that a genre?) I’ve seen since 2018’s CALIBRE. A gripping rural nightmare.
